i hesitated to stop traffic for one moment as i rolled down my window to say "excuse me sir".. he looked a bit surprised and slowly crossed the lane to approach my passenger side window.. he seemed a bit dreary, but maybe it's because it was starting to get cold.. i handed him the card and asked if he wanted a free hamburger from jack in the box.. as he took the coupon from my hand, his face immediately lit up with a big smile across his tired face.. "thanks so much" as he made a fist for me to pound.. it felt as though i had given him the finished math homework to look over since he missed that lesson and didn't quite understand how to solve the equations.. he looked into my eyes and sincerely said "God bless you".. i didn't realize at that time how beautiful those 3 words are.. i quickly blurted out "you stay warm", as if he had any control over his comfort level.. i slowly drove away feeling good i could help, but so stupid for my 3 words.. his confused look indicated that to me as i'm sure he thought- "ya lady, i know how to stay warm, but the question is, am i able to tonight?".. i couldn't get his look out of my mind.. why couldn't i have said "God bless YOU!" why couldn't i make him feel as special as he made me feel?
you are loved and you are special.. you are a child and my brother..
let us see you in one another and work to show you in ourselves..
