"for where your treasure is,
there your heart is also"

in my class today, my teacher spoke about faith, money, and using our gifts to follow God's will.. it was very moving, eye opening, and made me really stop and think at how i want to live my life and how i am actually living..

my teacher spoke about how nothing actually belongs to us.. everything, every single thing we possess actually belongs to God.. we must be willing and able to give away every thing we have because we actually do not own it.. we need to share what we have been given with others.. we cannot define ourselves by our possessions because our quality of life does not lie with the stuff we have.. it lies with having faith in God and doing his works..

when i took a step back to look at my life and how i view my possessions, sometimes i bury my gifts because i do not want them to go away.. i want to hold onto them because i am uncertain of the future.. this is not the way of the Lord.. we cannot bury what we have, but we need to invest it to produce more and then give it away.. it is not really ours in the first place.. just that thought alone is so powerful and so true..

another thing i was thinking about is that i need to stop saying i will help others and devote my life to service, one day.. no, that day needs to be now.. we cannot allow ourselves to get sidetracked from the distractions or uncertainty of life.. we need to act now because none of us know how much longer we will have to achieve God's will..

"in the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple"

i do not think this means that we need to live with no possessions out on the streets.. but i do think that this means we cannot put value in our possessions.. we need to put value in our faith and recognize nothing we have is truly ours.. it all belongs to God.. we must be willing to give that to others, and be able to give that up in order to fully follow God..
